1Big DisappointmentFeb 28, 2006
By Lynn K. Whyte
I had read numerous reviews about this griddle and everyone raved about the quality and eveness of heat distribution and cooking. I waited three months for it and have never been so disappointed in a product. The handles felt thin and sharp on the edges. The feet were likewise sharp on the edges and did not sit totally level on the counter. I followed the instructions, washed it, seasoned it with some canola oil and then proceeded to cook breakfast for our guests. It held 8 pancakes at a time. The two near the control never got brown, the four in the center were almost black and the two at the far end came out beautiful. I tried it repeatedly that morning with the same disapppointing results each time. Maybe I got a lemon, but it certainly did not live up to it's glowing reports and did not do half as well as the cheaper model from a competitor that I have been using.

4Very Pleased With Purchase / Small Quality Control Issues?Jul 22, 2006
By Satcher "Matthew"
Like the one reviewer of this product. The first griddle I received had very uneven legs and would not sit level. I tried to tighten the screws that secured the legs to griddle to correct the problem, but to no avail. I returned the first one, and received a replacement soon after. The second griddle I received sat level, and was as steady as a rock. It heats quickly and evenly. I am very pleased with this purchase. I don't know why they recommend seasoning the griddle with cooking oil? I did this with the first unit I received, and the oil just got sticky/tacky and was hard to clean off. With the second unit, I decided not to season it. So far I've only cooked pancakes on it, but just with warm soapy water I'm easily able to clean off the nonstick surface to like new condition. I really like the grey cooking surface, something different then the usual black. Aside from the small quality control issue with the first griddle. The griddle seems to be relatively well built and with proper care should last a long time.

1Very Dissapointed - especially with Broil King Customer ServiceJun 21, 2008
By Joe N9OK
Our children purchased this product for us, on our recommendation, on the strength of some nice reviews on Epinions and a few other websites. Our overall experience with this product was unfortunately not positive. After just over 1 year of usage the product is no longer usable, and an email sent to the published customer service address at BroilKing went unanswered.

Pros: Large. American Made. Even heating. Can tip slightly for grease run off.

Cons: Expensive, especially for an appliance which lasted only 1 year in infrequent service. Poor application of non-stick coating, the coating was peeling off in several areas the day we got it. These areas were on the side, not on the area where one would cook, so we didn't return it. Hard to clean, due to there being areas where food would collect that were hard to get at, specifically between the handles and the cooking surface. No channel to direct grease to run-off pan, so the griddle would tend to overflow. Piece-o-junk heating control, which broke after 1 year of service due to overheating - there was a broken solder joint/wire inside of the control - some kind of heat/fatigue failure. I asked Broilking to replace this control, and I got no response at all.

We replaced this griddle with a Presto 07039 which we've been much happier with. The Presto 07039 effectively addresses the design shortcomings of this griddle. You can see my review of the Presto elsewhere in Epinions.

5Great griddleApr 22, 2009
By J. Dwoskin
After comparing a lot of griddles on the market, I selected this one for a number of reasons. It has a large surface, a high quality non-stick coating, and is made with heavy material so it holds heat well. I've found it to cook very evenly -- you just have to wait for it to finish preheating (when the light goes off on the controls). In fact it is more even than the griddle pan I use on my stovetop.

I was original comparing this griddle (USG-10G) with the professional model (PCG-5). Broil King customer service e-mailed me the following information:

"The 2 big differences are:

1) the non-stick coating--the PCG-5 has a commercial non-stick coating so it will last longer than the USG-10's non-stick coating as it goes through a 2-step process as opposed to a 1-step adherence process

2) the probes--the PCG-5 has a commercial probe while the USG-10 has a regular household plug-in probe. This again comes down to the longevity of the part.

If you are looking to use the griddle on the weekends, camping trips, etc. and not everyday then the USG-10/USG-10G is an excellent choice.

The PCG-5 is more for the serious home chef. "

As a result, I bought the USG-10 and have been very happy with it. The non-stick coating is better than most of my typical non-stick pans. As suggested, I rub the surface with a dab of oil after each use to keep the non-stick coating in good condition.

5Very nice griddleMar 30, 2009
By D. Matheny
When our old griddle finally broke down after years of good service, I came to Amazon and bought the Presto 07039 griddle since it seemed to have the best reviews and was priced reasonably. Unfortunately, that griddle turned out to be a complete piece of junk - so I came back and spent a little more on this one.

Now, I'm not a professional chef or anything; so, I'm probably not as picky as some people - but we do use our griddle almost every day. This Broil King griddle fits our needs perfectly. It heats evenly, has a large, even surface and heats up fairly quickly. It's also solid enough that I suspect it will last for a while.

So far, I've cooked grilled cheese sandwiches, pancakes and french toast on this griddle with no problems at all - so if you are looking for a griddle that 'just works' this is probably going to be the unit for you. I would seriously recommend avoiding a cheaper unit like the Presto that I mentioned above.
