I spent a lot of time reading reviews about different epilators. wanted an epilator primarily for doing underarms. finally settled on buying this one. it came in the mail, i took a shower, exfoliated, came out, plugged it in. tried my legs first, it gave something of a prickly sensation, was a little slow in removing leg hairs. then cleaned it and used it to do my underarms and i was AMAZED. first of all, what pain ??? there was no pain that i could feel. emjoi epilators are known to reduce pain, and i think they do do a good job of it. i do really think the vibrating edges and the massaging finger make for a more comfortable/gentle hair removal experience. i like that it has gold tweezers too, hypoallergenic = good. plus, i can expect them to last long. anyway 5 minutes later i was done one underarm, and 4 minutes later i was done the next. i did both underarms under 10 minutes. pretty happy with how they looked too. wiped them, applied moisturizer, and then sometime later applied lemon juice (natural deodorant). today, my armpits feel smoother than they have ever felt. ever. supremely happy with the first try, lets see how it goes. it really is a very cute piece of machinery, and i'm excited to use it again when i do.

some tips for those not used to hair removal from the root (waxing, epilating):

1. look at the direction in which the hairs are. and look at the direction in which the epilator heads are turning. make sure you align the epilator turns in the direction that the hairs are in in order to pull out the hair in the natural direction. in waxing you pull them out in the opposite direction, but that actually has the same effect. doing this right makes sure that you get your hairs from the root rather than cut them off

2. make sure you stretch the area you are epilating, otherwise you'll irritate your skin by the epilating heads, feel more pain while the hairs are pulled, and worst of all, get your skin caught. so pull your skin taut. this takes some interesting maneuvering when doing underarms by yourself, but with practice you can get perfect. if you can't stretch the skin out by yourself for certain angles, have someone help you.

3. make sure you keep your skin clean exfoliated and moisturized on a regular basis. this will significantly reduce the risk of ingrown hairs. and right before epilating, take a shower and pat dry your skin. doing this makes it less painful for hairs to be pulled out. and after epilating use some kind of antibacterial (ie lemon juice) to reduce chance of infection/irritation.

5Happy with my purchase.Aug 09, 2007

I'm happy with this purchase. It doesn't seem to work that well on fine hairs as it does on thicker hairs. However, I was pleased that it was able to lift the shorter hairs. This product is not painful as described by others.

5Surprisingly Great!May 15, 2009

My product arrived on time and in brand new condition.
I was surprised at how well it removes hair. Yes, it it painful, but only for the first use.
If you can pluck a hair or two with tweezers out of the area you wish to epilate, you should have no problem using this product.
It comes with a bag, exfoliater, brush, and a different head.
I would recommend this product to anyone that wishes to remove hair.

5Very niceDec 07, 2011

This is the first Epilator I've ever bought, and I really like it!

I use it on my underarms and bikini area, and it has literally cut my shaving frequency to about a fourth (IF that!) of what I normally would have to do, as long as I keep up with it every few of weeks. I really wanted one because I hate having to abuse my skin with razors (and they looked like it) and this has done exactly what I wanted. NO razor burn anymore; the skin is actually very pretty and almost exfoliated looking after using this. While I don't find it very painful on those two areas, I can't use it on my legs. It just hurts too much for me, but by all means, if you can, it's awesome.

I do recommend exfoliating whatever area you use it on a little more frequently than you normally would though, especially just before you use this. There's no burn or redness, but the hair does seem "weaker" trying to grow back, so scrubbing will help prevent any ingrown or wonky ones. If nothing else, it helps the Epilator grab them more easily.

The "massaging finger attachment" is actually very helpful too. It cuts any discomfort level pretty much in half.
The size is nice, and the cord length is convenient. It's a little hard to clean, but if you keep up with it, it's all good!

5VERY PleasedFeb 10, 2011

Okay. Not going to lie, I was a little skeptical when it came to making this purchase. The only time I took tweezers to my legs was when I had an ingrown hair. And that was usually very painful. So my skepticism was justified, at least in my eyes.

So what made me buy it? I was sick of going out and buying razors all the time. As a college student, I couldn't afford it. So why not an electric razor? They leave a bunch of fuzz behind. Chemical hair removers such as Nair burned like @#*! and removed a fraction of the hair. Wax? No. Ever seen Miss Congeniality with Sandra Bullock? Yeah. Not happening. Don't even think about touching me with that crap. Messy. Time consuming. BEYOND PAINFUL.

But this beauty... took me 45 minutes to shave everything. And I mean EVERYTHING. And it really didn't hurt that much. At most, it was like a mosquito bite. Sooooo worth the smooth skin left behind. Yeah, it left behind red marks, but that's to be expected; you just pulled hair by the roots. And after a hot shower, most of them faded and the rest should fade after a day or two and, with repeated use, should occur less often. Those complaining about bumps? Perhaps you set it to the wrong speed and only split the hair. The tugging sensation without the full removal would irritate the skin. Those complaining about the cord being to short? I'm 5ft 9in and had no problem with it. Length of cord still a problem? Plug it into an extension cord; I did it just in case and didn't really need it. And I wouldn't worry about it breaking anytime soon; It fell over 6ft and still works just fine.

As for how long the smooth skin lasts, that depends on the individual.
