Probably a good device. However, in the product description here on the Amazon site, it states that you can use this product for different areas of the body. But once I got the product, the directions say to only use it on your legs. Attempted to use it on my face just to see and the blades almost cut my chin and lip! So be careful if you think this product is to be used on other parts of the body other than legs!

My mother had the first generation Epilady when I was growing up and I remember the loud whirring of the coils when she touched it to my leg once. I winced from pain and vowed never to use one of these epilators.
Years later, I broke and bought one because I was looking for a more efficient hair removal process. I now love this item, but I also purchased the item with some experience with non-shaving based hair removal.
If an epilator says painless, they mean compared to other epilators, not compared to shaving. Any time you rip hair out of your legs several strands at a time it's going to hurt a little. Also, despite what Amazon says, the other reviewer is correct: you should not use this item on any part of your body that is not specified by the product. Epilady's website is a good source of information for the products.
That being said, if you can wax and pluck, you can epilate. It takes a little getting used to because it is more time consuming than waxing and more extensive than plucking. But, after you have used it a few times, it's as "painless" as waxing or plucking, it's cheaper than waxing in the long run, your hair grows back thinner the more you use it (or at least mine did), and you only have to use it once or twice a month (depending on how fast your hair grows).
I wouldn't go back to any other hair removal process after using the epilady.

Very handy for traveling around the world without having to worry or bother with using different adapters. With this, all you need are two AA batteries, which is easy to find anywhere. Plus, instead of being confined in one corner near a power outlet, you can use this anywhere.
My only complaint is that it doesn't seem as powerful as a plug-in epilator, but it still gets the job done well.
A must-have for me when I travel, especially if you don't have time to get your legs waxed and if you're like me, prefer not to shave my legs. Great product!

Product works with AA batteries which are available worldwide. I have a AA charger and a few sets of rechargeable batteries for my flashlight, camera, etc. so there is always power available. I use it only on my legs and it works very well for this purpose. It catches even the short hairs and pulls them out usually on the first try. It is much faster than my older model epilady, I can usually do a leg in 5-10 minutes. The pain level is normal for such a product (not bad but it does hurt a little). A good product overall, the batteries allow me to epilady my legs just about anywhere.

I have this model for travel and another one same brand that requires 110V ac power instead of batteries.
The device could double as a torture machine but I admit that it works magnificently.
I hate using it, so I tend to leave too much time in between uses. This is why I need the battery operated one, because sometimes I wait until I'm at a hotel or somewhere outside my home and realize that I HAVE to use it.
If shaving, waxing, or other torture methods are not for you, this machine at least works very well. The hair comes back thinner, I wish I could say it does not come back but in my case it does. However coming back thinner allows you to get away with less frequent use.
