good little thermometerNov 29, 2010
By Kennbenn I have had the Maverick for almost a year and I am well pleased with it. I read some of the reviews before purchasing and saw the problems with the cables so I ordered the one designed for BBQ and smokers, with the steel braided cable. I use this primarily in the oven in the house. In fact it stays in the oven all the time. The opening and closing of the door has not affected the cable. I also rarely turn it off. I keep it on the non-averaging mode so it shows current actual tempurature. I replaced the AAA battery (regular batery non-alcaline)for the first time last week after it had been on for the best part of 10 months, 24/7. I don't have a good way to validate its accuracy other than looking at the way baked goods come out after I use the Maverick to adjust the oven temp. On that basis I find it to be accurate. I am happy enough with this to order a Maverick for my son.

Limited functionMay 24, 2010
By M. R. Pitts-campbell Just be aware that this thermometer is ONLY for monitoring the internal temperature of your BBQ or smoker, NOT of the items being cooked.
I failed to read the "fine print" and had to return it. It probably works well for that limited function although Maverick, historically, has a problem with the cables of their meat probes not withstanding BBQ heat.
JunkJan 12, 2012

This thermo was DOA until I realized you had to switch the alarm/limit switch to off before it reads. But when it did it was off only 100 degrees when compared to a highly accurate digital thermo. Also notice it has a limited range, especially at the low end. Their claim to accuracy is _+15 degrees.
JUNK; poor quality control on Maverick's part.
Oven ThermometerNov 18, 2011
By DeeBee Excellent thermometer for either BBQ or regular Kitchen Oven usage. The main rule to follow is to avoid making sharp bends in the probe cable. If you do make sharp bends, either in storage or in use, you may damage the cable and render it useless. The probe tip mounts easily in the included "foot mount" and the probe tip should be placed near the item being cooked. If using it in the oven, you can close the oven door on the cable without causing any damage but just be sure that this does not cause any "kinks" in the cable. For storage, it will be safer to coil up the cable rather than storing it in the "bowtie" fashion that it was originally packaged with. I use this unit for both Kitchen oven and outdoor BBQ grills and it works great in both applications. Be aware, however, that your oven will have a fluctuating temperature. For example,if you set it for 350 degrees, the actual temperature in the oven will likely cycle up to about 375 and then shut off until the temperature drops to about 325. The OT-03BBQ thermometer display will rise and fall throughout these cycles, so you will need to take this into consideration.
My experience over many examples, however, is that the temperatures displayed (or selected)by most residential ovens are usually not accurate but some will have the capability for you to "adjust" the temperature setting. This capability, used in conjunction with the BBQ thermometer, will allow you to more accurately adjust your oven settings.
Another caution: Do not leave the cable in the oven when using the "oven cleaning" function. The extreme heat from this cleaning operation will likely ruin the BBQ probe.
A good calibration solution.Nov 08, 2011

I purchased this unit to check the calibration of the oven temperature settings. In the simple, it looks great, is easy to use and I'm sure it's accurate as it shows our oven temperature settings to pretty much spot on. I've had and used this unit for a month now and I have no reason to cuss it.
The temperature sensor cable length is of a very usable length. You can place the sensor in the middle of one side of the oven box and there's sufficient sensor cable length to easily come out of the oven so the display unit can comfortable sit on the counter top. The display unit has two large flat magnets attached to the back of the unit, so one can easily and safely attach the display unit to a vertical metal surface. The thermometer also has a detachable hanger that can be screwed to the wall for the display unit to hang from.
Everything from looks, to convenience of user interface to details as to how one chooses to use/display the display, have been well thought out. Overall, with this unit, one gets a beautiful thermometer for an excellent delivered price.
