Better than sliced toastDec 03, 2010
By Richard Hankla The Remote Thermometer works great, no more getting up and down to check the roast in the oven. We had Prime Rib for Thanksgining this year I checked the roast once just to make sure it was working. I set the Maverick ET-710S to 130 degrees and went to the pool room to play pool, taking the remote with me. At 130 degrees the remote sounded and the 23 lbs of prime rib was perfect. Let the roast rest under a foil tent for 45 min. cut and served. Comments at the table were best roast ever, perfectly done and everyone asking about the Maverick ET-710S Remote Thermometer With LCD Transmitter Box. Shipping with Amazon using UPS ground I received my product in three days. I love Amazon, this is one of many products I have purchased from Amazon, never any problems.

WARNING: NOT for use in ovensMar 13, 2012
By Joshua G. In a good thermometer, the temperature sensing element is isolated at the very tip of the thermometer. This is not the case for this thermometer, though; it runs the length of the entire probe. Why is this important? If you want to use this in your oven (which I just did) it will give you a reading at the hottest part of the probe: the top of the probe, exposed to the hot air of the oven, not the tip (the part that's actually in the food). I just used this in my oven and it sounded the alarm for 160 degrees when in reality the food was only 150 degrees. This is not a calibration issue, as it measures the temperature of boiling water well enough. This is a design issue. This product should ONLY be used on a grill or a frying pan, where the top of the probe is in air at ambient temperatures; NOT in an oven where it will be in very hot air.

New use! Remote furnace boiler monitoring!Feb 10, 2010
By Woodman I recently installed an outdoor wood fired boiler to heat my house and hot water. I needed a good way to monitor the water temperature in the boiler without going outside to measure it at the furnace. The system is located 60 feet from the house and this remote thermometer was just the thing to get the job done. I mounted it on the outside of the furnace in a clear plastic waterproof outlet cover and ran the probe into the furnace to measure the water temperature. The transmitter has a display so I can check the reading while out at the furnace and the remote unit makes for extremely convenient readings in the house.

It worked perfectly the first three times, then...Feb 23, 2012
By Dempsy Winans Man was this thing sweet while it lasted. It allowed me to know exactly what the internal temp was on the meat I had cooking in my smoker and would give an audible alarm when it reached the target temp.
Then while smoking my last round of meats, it messed up. The temp had been tracking perfectly as it climbed slowly up from 40 degrees to around 150. I was going for a target temp of 155 but when it got to 152, it all of a sudden started beeping and the reading said it was 345 degrees! All within a couple of minutes. The only way that could happen was if my smoker had caught fire so I rushed to the door and looked out but there was no fire. In fact, my smoker was holding at 190 degrees as it was set to do. I disconnected the temperature probe, turned the base and receiver units off, then back on, reset them but they still gave false readings. While holding the sensor in my hand it said the temp was 145 degrees! I'm a pretty handsome guy and all the women say I'm hot, but I'm not THAT hot! Hahahah, just kidding.
So, save your money and try a different remote thermometer. I haven't contacted Amazon or the OEM yet to see about getting it repaired but I hope it's relatively pain free. If not, I'll let you know.

Works just as advertisedFeb 05, 2012

Very nice indeed.
First I check the accuracy by placing the probe in boiling water - 211 degrees. This is accurate as the water was boiling when I pulled it out of the microwave and quickly settled out as I removed it to test the water temp.
Then I used it on the smoker - three times to be exact and each time it worked just fine. The temp was very precise as was confirmed with my instant read, probe thermometer.
The unit sends a signal just fine for me - I had a good reception up to 50 feet, through one or two walls. Will it go farther? I don't know, I can't get too far from the sender as my smoker is right on my porch.
I am happy - just keep the probe dry where the probe meets the wire and you should be fine.
