5Works beautifully!Apr 30, 2008
By J. Fuchs "jax76"
I love this thermometer. It measures both freezer and refrigerator temperatures and gives you current readings plus weekly averages for each. The sticky stuff on the back of the main unit actually works, even with refrigerator moisture, so the unit stays out of the way and you don't have to worry about it getting knocked over or shoved to the back or sideways where you can't see it. It takes AAA batteries, so no special batteries required. It also matches my favorite non-digital refrigerator thermometer in terms of accuracy and has helped me to discover that there is a 10 degree difference in temperature between my refrigerator's top and bottom shelves, so now I store things more appropriately and can be assured of food safety. This is a great product.

5works great once wires are tucked..Nov 17, 2010
By Binster
Bought two of these units for main kitchen and 2nd Fridge/freezer in basement. We were having some strange food issues and then our old Freezer died. With a house full of kids the fridge gets lots of action. When I bought the new freezers and refridgerator I bought the thermometers to keep up with the temperatures inside them.

Installation wasn't too bad if you're handy. The freezer extension probe is on a long wire that has to snake from the main unit to the freezer. I attached little adhesive backed mountings and wire tied the excess wire of the freezer probe so that I got a clean look. I found a seam between the fridge and freezer and ran the wire across the seam so that the door seals would seal properly. The main unit mounts using an adhesive backing that mounts it at an angle. I mounted it high up so that kids don't break it.

Once mounted I found online what the proper temps for a fridge and freezer should be and set the alarms. I let it sit for a few hours and then came back to check. Boy was I surprised. Those little "knobs" on the fridges and freezers are basically useless for temperature selection. It was too warm in both compartments! No wonder our food didn't last long! I adjusted the temperature knobs over the course of the week until the alarms were mostly green. It will turn red with repeated openings but you want to see what your "average" temp is.

Now I have everything dialed in and we have been using it for about a month. I can taste the difference already in the food. This was a great purchase and should have done it years ago.

5Very good temperature gaugeMay 16, 2009
By M. Stein
I bought a new refridgerator and the temperature seemed off to me. I ordered this gauge to test it and it proved to be very accurate. I confirmed this with my old film developing thermometer that I know is right on. The refridgerator was wrong and needed to be adjusted by the service dept.

4Not the right device for an RV refrigeratorJun 03, 2011
By A. Downs
I previously had a similar device which died, so I bought this as a replacement. Because my RV refrigerator is usually powered by propane, and sometimes the gas flame fails (wind can blow out the flame), I want to be able to see the temperature of my frig at a glance, to catch a power-off problem before my food spoils. My intent was to mount it on the OUTSIDE of the refrig door and use it to monitor the refrig only (using the probe intended for the freezer). The temperature sensor built into the display, and intended to monitor refrig temp would then be showing the temperature in the RV outside the refrig. But I ran into a couple of problems.

First, the mounting surface is on the side of the display, and at an angle. It is designed to go inside the refrig on the left side wall. I would need to change the mounting method to mount on the outside of the door.

Second, The high temperature alarms are LEDs - Red if the set maximum temperature is exceeded, green if all is well. To conserve power, the display has a light sensor so that the LEDs are lit only when the refrig door is open and the display senses light. If I mounted the display on the outside of the door, the LEDs would be lit constantly, and battery life would suffer.

Not the right device for my application. But I own it, and a thermometer inside the refrig is better than none at all, so I have mounted it inside the refrigerator, and since my RV is not now in use, and I store the refrig with the door open, I have put a piece of tape over the light sensor to keep the LEDs turned off.

One other comment. If it is installed on the left inside wall of your refrigerator, and it comes time to change the batteries, I think it will be a struggle, as the batteries go into the rear of the device. You will need to insert your head into the refrig, use a mirror, or work by feel. The spring contacts are strong so you will need to take care that you don't apply so much force to the display that the tape attaching it to the refrig wall breaks free. And be sure to install the batteries with the correct polarity. This is the basis of my 4 star rating - the installation and servicing of the thermometer; I cannot comment on it's accuracy or reliability as I have not actually used it yet, just got it and installed it a couple of days ago.
