Not Recommended: Complicated, Slow, Inaccurate, Expensive = Ruined FoodDec 05, 2006
By TedO I have used electronic temperature forks with great success, i.e. perfect temperature meat off the grill means happy and impressed friends & family. I've had the best luck with cheapo forks that simply have individual lights for "rare, medium-rare, medium -etc.." Thinking the premium-priced and feature-laden Maverick Redi-Fork Pro could be the ultimate BBQ tool has resulted in a big and costly disappointment. First off, it is very difficult to understand the tiny, complicated and non-intuitive display which is upside-down and impossible to read during actual use (did anybody ever test this thing?). The display's shortcomings might be overcome with keen eyesight and hours of intense training but the killer blow is the fact the Redi-Fork Pro is painfully slow to take a reading and disastrously inaccurate; eventually indicating "rare" when meat is actually "well". About the only moderately worthwhile feature is the dim little incandescent "meat light" which helps with the necessarily frequent consultations of the instruction manual. Finally, at 2-3x the cost of other similar products, the Redi-Fork Pro delivers the ultimate insult of wasting your money. I bought two and gave one to a friend. I was completely embarrassed and had to apologize for ruining an expensive meal. Thinking it was user error, we studied the manual and tried it another time which resulted in another ruined meal. Ouch!

Perfect Bar-B- QueJan 18, 2007
By S. Dawson This fork was purchased as a Christmas gift for our son. We have the same fork and love it. We have never had an over cooked steak or under cooked piece of poultry or pork, when using the fork.
It's Great!
